The Chinese team won the first place of the group total score in the 61st IMO

The 61st International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) was held in St. Petersburg, Russia from September 18 to 28, 2020. Due to the impact of the epidemic situation, the opening ceremony of the competition was held online on September 20, 2020. 616 athletes from 104 countries and regions participated in the competition. The Chinese team won the first place in the group with a total score of 215 points, 5 gold medals and 1 silver medal.

From September 17 to 19, the Chinese national team conducted training and preparation before departure at the School of Mathematical Sciences of Peking University. Academician Gang TIAN, President of the Chinese Mathematical Society; Professor Min CHEN, former Vice President of the Chinese Mathematical Society; Professor Jianping WU, former Deputy Director of the China Mathematical Olympic Committee; Professor Dayue CHEN, President of the School of Mathematical Sciences of Peking University; Professor Bin LIU, former Vice President of School of Mathematical Sciences of Peking University; Professor Zhaojun SUN, Vice President of School of Mathematical Sciences of Peking University, and Professor Liang XIAO, etc. had a discussion with the students. The School of Mathematical Sciences of Peking University has done a lot of preparatory work for this competition.
