On behalf of the Chinese Mathematical Community, we are pleased to issue this official statement to express our firm and unreversed support for the Hong Kong Mathematical Society (HKMS) in its bid to host the International Congress of Mathematicians 2030 (ICM 2030) in Hong Kong, China.
The ICM is the most prestigious and influential gathering in the mathematical world. Hosting an ICM represents a recognition of a region’s mathematical vitality and its commitment to the global mathematical community. China is fully prepared to take on this mission once again.
We now have numerous high-level mathematics departments and research institutes, home to a large number of distinguished mathematicians and gifted students. This achievement is certainly due to our efforts and the generous support from mathematical communities around the world, for which we are deeply grateful.
The ICM 2002 held in Beijing was a pivotal milestone in the history of Chinese mathematics, which greatly boosted the development of mathematics in China and strengthened our ties with the global mathematical community. Today, as China continues to develop its mathematical undertakings, hosting the ICM once again carries profound significance for unlocking the enormous potential of mathematics and related sciences in our country, and for contributing more to the progress of global mathematics.
Hong Kong has exceptional advantages for hosting the ICM 2030. With its unique fusion of Eastern and Western cultures, highly open academic environment, extensive international flight connectivity, and widespread use of English, Hong Kong is excellently equipped to welcome mathematicians from every corner of the globe.
The Chinese Mathematical Society will actively and fully cooperate with the Hong Kong Mathematical Society in its bid for the ICM 2030, providing all necessary support and assistance.
