自疫情发生后，中国数学会作为中国科协“战‘疫’有我，为决胜攻坚提供科技志愿服务”的联合倡议单位之一，深入贯彻落实习近平总书记一系列重要批示指示精神以及党中央、中国科协有关防疫工作的部署要求，发挥学科优势，组建研究团队开展建模、预测等工作，为切实提高疫情防控的科学性和有效性起到了积极的作用。
学会理事、陕西师范大学唐三一教授联合陕西师范大学生物数学团队、西安交通大学生物数学团队以及加拿大吴建宏教授团队，建立了包括密切跟踪隔离，封城效果检测的传播动力学模型，基于1月22日24时前数据，实现了模型辨识和拟合。研究成果已完成并投稿。同时他们还对未来一周的疫情进行了预测。他们的研究成果为国家疾病预防控制部门早决策早预警提供了重要的决策依据。
学会理事、学会生物数学专业委员会主任、北京建筑大学崔景安教授带领的北京建筑大学生物数学团队第一时间参与了武汉新型冠状病毒数学建模与预测工作。模型团队负责人是厦门大学陈田木博士。模型结果经过国家疾控中心专家讨论后形成报告，而后报给国家卫健委，为国家决策提供参考。
学会理事、东北师范大学范猛教授自疫情暴发开始，密切关注疫情发展动态和学界研究动态，他所带领的东北师范大学生物数学研究团队联合加拿大York University朱怀平教授研究团队及东北地区部分生物数学学者，以数据和机理为驱动，基于新型冠状病毒的流行病学特征及传播现状，应用动力学建模方法开展了相关研究工作，探究延迟确诊对疾病传播的影响，预测疾病发展趋势，并评估干预措施的有效性，特别是对“封城闭户”进行了比较深入的研究，研究结果很好地拟合了当前疫情实际，相关研究结果已提交给长春市疾病预防与控制中心，对疫情防控提供参考。
